Wien Energie Is Using 12 Flottweg Xelletor Decanter Centrifuges

Wien Energie is one of Austria's largest regional energy suppliers. Flottweg supplied 12 Xelletor decanter centrifuges to Wien Energie for dewatering the sewage sludge from the adjacent main sewage treatment plant. Flottweg was able to beat out two other competitors in the qualification process. After just one year of construction, the 12 Xelletor decanter centrifuges were integrated into the plant during normal operations and then brought online.

Wien Energie is now using twelve Flottweg X7E decanter centrifuges to make sewage sludge dewatering efficient and sustainable for the future. The Xelletor series, which revolutionized sludge dewatering when it was introduced in 2018, is very energy-efficient, enables a higher level of dry solids, and consumes less polymers – key factors leading to the the major project being awarded to the Lower Bavarian separation technology specialist.

The “Energy optimization of centrifuges” project at Wien Energie's Simmeringer Haide site was divided into four construction phases. During each individual construction phase, normal operations had to be maintained and safe disposal guaranteed. Keeping this in mind and working in close cooperation with the project management and operations at Wien Energie, the first modifications were started in December 2020 in sludge tract 1. Four new decanter centrifuges, which were divided into two delivery batches, were integrated into the plant. From February 2021 onwards, the first new X7E decanter centrifuges were already an integral part of the daily sludge dewatering operations. The modifications and commissioning of the new machines were completed in sludge tract 1 at the end of April 2021. Work then began on modifying Wien Energie's second sludge tract. Four new X7E decanter centrifuges, which were also divided into two delivery batches, were integrated into the plant and brought online in June and October 2021.

Since October 2021, Wien Energie, Austria’s largest regional energy provider, has had twelve new Flottweg X7E decanter centrifuges available for daily sludge dewatering. In addition to the delivery and installation of the twelve decanter centrifuges, the associated electrical and I&C integration and connection to the existing plant was conducted in individual construction phases. The new sewage sludge dewatering plant is fully in line with the innovative, forward-looking orientation of Wien Energie.
