Flottweg ensures more efficient sludge dewatering at Skanderborg sewage treatment plant
Skanderborg sewage treatment plant in Denmark, built for an equivalent of about 45,000 people, has replaced its two 20-year-old machines with new Flottweg decanters. As the old decanters were worn out and no longer achieved the required solids content, the sewage treatment plant decided to purchase new machines. Four years later, the sewage treatment plant remains satisfied with the performance of the machines and is impressed by the extensive service that Flottweg offers.

Cost savings thanks to the high efficiency of Flottweg machines
Although the dewatering process has not changed, the efficiency of sludge dewatering has increased enormously with the new Flottweg Xelletor machines. By using the two new X4E decanters from Flottweg, the sewage treatment plant now not only saves energy costs, but also sludge and polymer costs: “We save money on sludge disposal, polymer consumption, and electricity costs. In general, we have to dispose of less sludge because it now has a higher solids content,” explains Carsten, the sewage treatment plant’s operations assistant.

Polymer consumption has fallen by about 25 percent, while the solids content in the sewage sludge has increased by 4 to 5 percent with the new Xelletor machines. Due to the improved dewatering performance, less sludge has to be transported away from the sewage treatment plant. This, together with the polymer savings, results in significant cost savings.

Good collaboration with Flottweg
But it’s not just the performance of the machines that convinced the Skanderborg sewage treatment plant to buy the two Flottweg decanters; the good collaboration was also a crucial deciding factor. The sewage treatment plant is totally satisfied, especially when it comes to the extensive and competent service that Flottweg offers its customers. “We have a really good collaboration with Flottweg. They come when we call, and if there are any updates, we get them. We simply have no problems with Flottweg,” says Carsten, describing the cooperation with Flottweg. According to Carsten, even after four years of operation, the machines still perform at required standards, are user-friendly, and create a pleasant working environment due to their minimal noise generation. Due to the reduced noise pollution, the working environment has changed for the better for the employees on site. Since they started using the Flottweg decanters, tours for visitors can also be carried out without noise protection. According to Carsten: “We have to talk a little loudly, but we can be in the room at the same time without any problems.” This was previously not possible with the old machines.
