Industrial Centrifuges for Tar Purification – Shanxi Coking Company

The tar generated in the coking process contains water as well as dissolved ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, aluminum chloride and coal dust. Water and solids must be separated as much as possible when cleaning and treating tar. The purity of tar is critical to its value. Increasing tar purity increases the value of the tar and can also extend tank cleaning cycles, saving manufacturers time and money. The three-phase decanter centrifuge separates tar, ammonia water and solids at the same time. Not only is this highly efficient, but it also reduces the water content of the purified tar to less than 2%.

 

Shanxi Coking Group was founded in 1969 with assets totaling 23.1 billion yuan. The current JN60 6-part coke oven is designed to have a capacity of 3.6 million tons/year, and is capable of 300,000 tons/year of coal tar processing, 350,000 tons/year of methanol, 100,000 tons/year of benzene refining, and 80,000 tons/year of carbon black, and mainly produces 45 products including coke, ammonium sulfate, industrial naphthalene, asphalt, anthracite, cleaning oils, phenols, carbon black, methanol, and benzenes.

 

Yongqing Yang, plant manager of the Shanxi coking plant said about acquiring a centrifuge for the tar processing, that “the quality of dewatered tar after processing must meet requirements. This is of the utmost importance. Secondly, long-term stable operation is essential for raw tar processing. And thirdly, the quality of the centrifuge is critical for reducing spare part use and repair costs and can save the company a lot of money.”

So, in 2005, after comparing the various advantages of different alternatives, the Shanxi Coking Group selected Flottweg and acquired four Flottweg Tricanter^® three-phase decanters for the tar dewatering process, and now has a throughput of about 45 cubic meters per hour. The tar processing area, which is a hazardous area, has been operating safely for over 17 years with Flottweg’s explosion-proof machines, avoiding the safety hazards posed by toxic or combustible gasses.
