Vocational training is the launching pad for starting your career. That is why it is all the more important to find a suitable and future-oriented training position. Flottweg has been offering training in its company since 1946 and supporting young adults to take their first steps into the professional world every year. During an interview, Daniel Wimmer, Training Manager at Flottweg SE, provides insights into the vocational training to become an industrial mechanic.

What Responsibilities Are Associated with Training to Become an Industrial Mechanic?

The responsibilities of an industrial mechanic involve machine maintenance, the manufacture of components on various machining systems, the servicing of machines, as well as assembly and repair activities. In general, it takes approx. 3.5 years to complete this training. Training can also be shortened to three years if performance in the company and in school is good.

What Are the Requirements for Trainees?

Flottweg offers young people training in jobs with a future. It is important to us that the trainees enjoy their work, that they are encouraged to work together and that they can be creative in the diverse trainee projects. In addition, at Flottweg we primarily train for our own needs, which means that many employees already start their careers internally with the apprenticeship. In addition, Flottweg offers trainees many benefits, such as a 37-hour week, 30 days of vacation and almost 14 months of salary, including vacation and Christmas bonuses.

How Is the Industrial Mechanic Training Structured?

We have our own in-house training workshop at Flottweg to teach all the basic skills. Trainees spend approx. 1.5 years here learning the fundamentals before taking an intermediate examination and then going on to do the rest of their training in the plant. Once there, trainees rotate through all the different job positions available in the individual production halls, such as Production, Assembly, Plant Engineering, or Quality Testing.

We also offer training courses in our in-company Flottweg Academy. In some cases, we also cooperate with external partners from various machine manufacturers and bring them in-house. This ensures that employees are always kept up to date.

What Does Flottweg Offer Trainees?

Flottweg offers young people training in jobs with a future. It is important to us that trainees enjoy their work, that cooperation be encouraged, and that they can get creative in the wide range of trainee projects. Furthermore, our main training priority at Flottweg focuses on covering our own needs. This means that many employees already kick off their careers in-house at Flottweg with vocational training. Flottweg also offers trainees many benefits, including a 37-hour week, 30 days of vacation, and 14 months’ salary, which includes vacation pay and a Christmas bonus.

What Prospects Does the Field of Industrial Mechanics Offer?

The profession of industrial mechanic will continue to be very important in the future, as there will always be production machines that need to be professionally operated and maintained. The profession will certainly continue to evolve, not only because of digitalization and technological progress, but it will also, in my opinion, continue to have great social relevance in the future.

In addition to vocational training to become an industrial mechanic (m/f/d), Flottweg also offers training in the following professions: mechatronics technician (m/f/d), warehouse logistics specialist (m/f/d), and industrial clerk (m/f/d).
