Internship at Flottweg - Interview with industrial mechanics
You want to experience an internship that is as realistic as possible, where you can really learn what to expect in an apprenticeship? Then Flottweg, the mechanical engineering company from Vilsbiburg, is the right place for you. During the one-week internship in the field of industrial mechanics, you will be able to try out many machines for yourself and get an overview of the most important aspects of working as an industrial mechanic in the company´s own training workshop. In addition to a guided tour of the plant, you will gain an insight into the world of working environment at Flottweg. In order to find out first-hand how the internship at Flottweg words, our trainees simply tell you about it themselves. Samuel Moser and Valentin Grundner, industrial mechanics in their secondyear of training, Ulrich Kronseder and Eva Herrschmann, industrial mechanics trainees in their third year of training, talk in an interview about their experiences during their internship at Flottweg.

Your internship as an industrial mechanic at Flottweg
Industrial mechanics take care of everything that has to do with industrial equipment: they manufacture small metal or plastic components, assemble them into modules and then install complete devices. They then set up the finished machines and systems professionally, monitor their operation, rectify faults and carry out the necessary maintenance and repair work.
During a one-week work placement, you will familiarise yourself with all of these activities. Working with many different modern machines for milling, filing or turning, nobody gets bored. Eva Herrschmann shares this opinion: “What I particularly remember about my internship, is that the trainers took good care of us and we were always busy, so we never got bored.”
Flottweg endeavours to give the trainees as many different insights into the occupational field of industrial mechanics as possible in order to promote the personal strengths of each individual and to strengthen different interests. Samuel Moser remembers the course of his internship: “Just like now in the apprenticeship, we were allowed to file, mill and turn and at the end we also did pneumatics, i.e. working with compressed air. Overall, the internship summarised the training very well and, looking back, you really got a comprehensive insight into the various tasks of an industrial mechanic.” When asked about the highlight of the internship, everyone agrees: “I really liked the fact that we were allowed to work on the machines ourselves”, says Samuel. Ulrich also has fond memories of the various tasks: “We built several workpieces. In my internship, these included a drilling plate with threads and fits, a filing piece and a screw clamp.”.
More than just an internship: Pleasant working atmosphere at Flottweg
Of course, the work should first and foremost be fun. But without the right working environment, that´s only half the battle: “The most important thing about my internship for me was the good atmosphere in the training workshop. The whole atmosphere was very relaxed”, says Valentin. He continues: “Even now in my apprenticeship, the community and the fact that you get on with everyone is the best thing for me.”
For Ulrich, the internship at Flottweg was also very helpful in deciding on the right apprenticeship: “I´ve always wanted to do something with metalworking. Thanks to the internship, I knew that I wanted to become an industrial mechanic.” Eva is also glad that she decided to do the internship: “I knew that I wanted to do something manual, but I only realised that I liked being an industrial mechanic so much during the internship.” After gaining an insight into the world of work and training, it was also clear to Eva: “After the week at Flottweg, it was clear that I wanted to do my training here.”
Overall, the trainees agree: “I can definitely recommend the internship at Flottweg, I really enjoyed it and we were allowed to do lots of different tasks”, Ulrich explains. But Samuel is also firmly convinced of his first professional experience at Flottweg: “The internship is highly recommendable because you get a lot of insights and can work independently a lot.”
In addition to internships as an industrial mechanic (m/f/d), Flottweg also offers internships as a mechatronics technician (m/f/d) and industrial clerk with further qualification as a foreign language correspondent (m/f/d). New trainees are also welcomed every year in all these professions.
