Flottweg Apprentices Well on Their Way

Twenty apprentices started their training at Flottweg in Vilsbiburg on September 3. But on their first week, they didn't work on anything like a lathe at the centrifuge manufacturer, but instead attended a "getting to know you" camp at Spindlhof Castle in Regenstauf. For the first time, two young ladies were among the apprenticeship group for foreign language industrial buyers.

"Our goal is that the boys and girls quickly form a team together. Getting to know the Flottweg culture will make it easier for them to find their way in this new phase of their lives," said Daniel Wimmer, head of the training department.

To ensure a strong feeling of "we" from the start of the apprenticeship, the 16 boys and four girls went to Regenstauf for two days. Once in the Oberpfalz, a wide variety of tasks awaited them that they could only solve by working as a team. In addition to building a race car and several climbing tasks, the youths also built a bridge from individual plug connectors. The bridge had to hold the weight of the whole team after it was constructed. One special feature of the bridge is that  it couldn't be held together with nails or rope, instead supporting itself only by a clever arrangement of the individual boards.

 

Nico Wimmer, first-year mechatronics technician's apprentice, was impressed from the program's first day. "Getting to know people at the camp was a lot of fun. Especially building the car and working together to design the bridge were great experiences. You really get to be part of a great team right in the first couple of days," he said.

Apprenticeship applications are still being accepted for industrial mechanics and mechatronics technicians for the upcoming academic year. The registration period ends at the end of September.
