Efficiently extract fermentation products
Industrial biotechnology describes the manufacture of organic compounds from renewable raw materials with the help of enzymes or organisms such as yeasts, bacteria, or fungal cultures. The objectives are to replace petroleum-based products with renewable raw materials and to counter the growing demand for finite, naturally occurring products.
The fermentation process is a central process step in industrial biotechnology. Flottweg decanters, Sedicanter®, separators, and nozzle separators can be used to efficiently separate a wide variety of fermentation products from a biomass.
High yield of plant extracts
Manufacturers of plant extracts face two major challenges in their production process: The processed products are very sensitive and often have different compositions (fresh or dried product) depending on the season. Many manufacturers also process several products on a single process line. Therefore, it is important that the machines used react flexibly to changing framework conditions.
Flottweg decanters, separators, and Sedicanter® efficiently and continuously separate the biomass from the liquid. Our decanters are primarily used in the pre-clarification process to obtain a high yield of liquid extract. Flottweg separators clarify the liquid extract a second time for the purest possible end product.

The Flottweg Sedicanter® - The centrifuge for soft sediment
Flottweg produces a special decanter centrifuge for soft, easy-flowing sediment. The Flottweg Sedicanter® separates solids from liquids. The special thing about it: The solids consist of a soft to easy-flowing sediment.
Soft or easy-flowing solids are difficult to process with a standard decanter. Only the patented Flottweg Sedicanter® achieves an optimal result. Thanks to its adjustable impeller, the best possible separation resolution is achieved even with fluctuating feed quantities.
The Sedicanter® combines the advantages of disc separators and decanter centrifuges. The suspension is clarified in a similar way to a separator, i.e. it provides an optimally clarified centrate. At the same time - like the decanter - it takes large quantities of solids at the inlet and produces dry solids (sediment) in the discharge.

Flottweg nozzle separators (2- and 3-phase nozzle separators) are used for the continuous separation of solids from liquids and ensure highly efficient clarification or separation. The product to be clarified or separated flows via a stationary inlet pipe into the inside of the bowl and is gently accelerated to operating speed by the distributor.
